About

Tracy McDonald

Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Hi I’m Tracy and I’m an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.

Life is full of challenges for us all but there may be occasions when we struggle with these difficult times and come to realise that we need some help, some support and someone to talk to, to help make sense of what is happening and how we are feeling. I am aware from my own personal experience, of how hard it can be to take that first step to find help but I believe that counselling is a step worth taking and can be transformative.

Experience

I currently work in my own private practice which I set up five years ago. Previously, I have worked as a counsellor for a drug and alcohol agency for two years as well as working within the community for a mental health charity for five years.

During this time, I have worked with many clients on a short-term and long-term basis helping individuals with many difficulties. I have a lot of experience working with anxiety and depression in particular as well as suicidal ideation, self-harm, low self-esteem and the underlying core issues which have included bereavement, loss, abuse and trauma. I also currently do some sessional work for a bereavement charity.

I have also experienced difficulties within my own life which ultimately took me on my own journey to seek therapy. I believe this has given me a wealth of knowledge and understanding which ultimately helps me to now help others.

My way of working

I am fundamentally an integrative counsellor, integrating Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy. My relationship with my client is of fundamental importance to the way I work. I offer a safe, compassionate and accepting space in which we can work together to explore and understand your feelings, fears, hopes and needs with the aim of helping you to make better choices within your life.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapy (BACP) and hold a current DBS check.

I offer face to face sessions as well as telephone and online if necessary.

I am very happy to have a chat over the phone with you to discuss the way I work before we meet up or to answer any questions you may have.

I charge £55.00 for an hour session.
